Witness in riot trial quizzed for not reporting IC incident

No police report was lodged against Keadilan leader Azmin Ali for allegedly demanding for the identity cards of bus drivers and passengers who were stopped on their way to the Lunas by-election in 2000, the Magistrates' Court in Kulim, Kedah, heard yesterday.

Azmin's legal counsel Pravan Singh said that, the act of demanding ICs from anyone is a "crucial act", yet the witness under cross-examination, S Murugesan, had not included this alleged act by Azmin in the report he lodged against the opposition leader on Nov 29, 2000.

In reply, Murugesan said he omitted that detail as his driving motive then was to report the tense situation and violence around him.

Murugesan, a lawyer and Selangor MIC youth leader, denied that his bringing up of that detail now, in court, was "an afterthought".

He was testifying in the trial against 10 opposition leaders and members who had allegedly participated in an illegal assembly with the intention to riot, and wrongfully confining scores of bus drivers and passengers.

In the dock were Azmin, who is Hulu Kelang state assembly representative, Keadilan vice-president Tian Chua, Youth chief Mohd Ezam Mohd Nor, Information chief Ruslan Kasim, supreme council member N Gobalakrishnan, Kedah Keadilan youth secretary Zamil Ibrahim, Taman Sejahtera Lunas PAS Youth chief Ahmad Khairudin Jamaluddin, Sungai Petani PAS Youth committee member Mohd Khairi Yahya, Kota Kuala Muda PAS committee member Mohd Fauzi Awang Kechik and PAS volunteer Khairul Nizar Ismail.
Tian was brought to the court from the Kamunting Detention Centre where he is undergoing a two-year detention under the Internal Security Act.

Similarly, Ezam too was brought from Kajang prison where he is undergoing a two-year sentence after being found guilty of committing an offence under the Official Secrets Act early this month. Prior to that, he was in Kamunting undergoung a two-year ISA detention.

When asked how Murugesan could conclusively identify those who stopped the buses to be Keadilan supporters, Murugesan said he knew them from the tags that they wore, which had the party logo.
However, Pravan disputed Murugesan's assumption that they were Keadilan people simply because they were wearing the party tags.

No one injured
To another question, Murugesan said none of the passengers had been injured or beaten up.
The day before, he had alleged in court that the group who detained the buses carried sticks, cameras and helmets.

Later, Pravan inferred that the buses were directed to the police station because they ferried phantom voters.
"If they are not phantom voters, why do they have to come on polling day?" Pravan asked.

To that, Murugesan said his movement, MIC Selangor, brought along supporters to Lunas to give their fellow Barisan Nasional member candidate "moral support".

Magistrate Rosnani Saud* presided over the case while DPP Hashim Hamzah prosecuted. Besides Pravan, Md Yunos Shariff, Cheah Kah Peng and Gooi Hock Seng were the legal counsel for the 10.

'I processed thousands of ICs for Sabah illegals'

A former ISA detainee has claimed she and her group had helped process "thousands of identity cards for Sabah illegal immigrants in the early 1990s to help topple the PBS state government.

Sixty-three-year-old Siti Aminah Mahmud (right) who was detained under ISA in 1995 for two years for her alleged involvement in the IC project.

Speaking at a press conference in Petaling Jaya today, she described how she had been tasked with collecting information for the illegal immigrants' IC application and handing the issued ICs to village chiefs throughout Sabah, to be issued to foreigners who were mostly Indonesians and Filipinos.

Aminah said she had been instructed to process the ICs for the foreigners as part of a plan to help Umno take over Sabah.

Dr M must upgrade his PC
James Wong Wing On

10:17am, Thu: opinion When Dr Mahathir Mohamad finally
became the fourth Prime Minister of Malaysia in July 1981,
there were not many personal computers around. My father was
still using an abacus to sort out the income and expenditure
of our family's coffee shop, although my sisters had asked
him to use a calculator instead.

A year later, when I went to Melbourne to pursue my
matriculation, I was introduced to the most advanced
computer of that time by a roommate. That 'machine' housed
in the science faculty was huge and bulky. On its screen
there were only two colours - black and white.

Yet, everybody was so excited and thrilled by it - the 'most
modern' calculating device on earth. Then, in an English
newspaper (July 16, 1982) which my father had sent from
Malaysia, I saw a black and white photograph of our new
prime minister working in his office with a personal
computer - which was much smaller than the one in the
science faculty.

Years later, I was told that the personal computer used by
Mahathir probably belonged to the PC 386 generation. Since
then, generation after generation of personal computers have
come and gone. The screens today are definitely a lot more
colourful as well.

And thanks to Mahathir, we have now built the Multimedia
Super Corridor (MSC) and the largest paperless office in the
world.

The setup
However, it seems that the premier's views, notions and
observations of the Chinese community are still frozen in
the era of that PC <386 .that=""> system operates on a very
simple programme and logic.

'MCA/Gerakan ', Chinese-language newspapers, the
Dong Jiao Zong (the United Chinese Schools Committees
Association and the United Chinese Schools Teachers'
Association) and Suqui are the new variables in the
configuration.

The programme's setup is as follows: MCA and Gerakan are
'good and moderate Chinese' on one pole whereas the Chinese
with or supporting Dong Jiao Zong and DAP are 'bad and
extremist guys'- on the other.

Meanwhile, the Chinese newspapers play the role of the
balancer. A pivotal role capable of swinging the political
mood of Chinese-educated voters.

Explained in this paradigm, the electoral defeat of Barisan
Nasional (BN) in Lunas can only be attributed to DAP, Dong
Jiao Zong and Suqiu working together with the Chinese
newspapers which had set an 'anti-government agenda'.

Re-booting perceptions
Let us upgrade Mahathir's PC (perception of Chinese) system.
In the Lunas by-election, it was Saiffudin Nasution, a
candidate from Keadilan who benefitted from the swing of the
Chinese voters to the opposition.

The Chinese newspapers, on the whole, had maintained
political neutrality and were balanced both in reporting and
presentation of opinions.

In balance, readers of the Chinese dailies saw DAP being
criticised heavily by the MCA/Gerakan leaders as well as
supporters of the Barisan Alternatif Front.

Also, while Dong Jiao Zong maintained its organisational
neutrality in the by-election, many of its individual
supporters were mobilised from all over the country to
support the Malay candidate from Keadilan.

In fact, many young Chinese opposition supporters had argued
in favour of a candidate from Keadilan and not for a
non-Malay from DAP.

Their views, that of DAP, as well as the opinions of Umno,
MCA and Gerakan supporting the MIC candidate were given
equal and fair coverage by the Chinese newspapers.

True, the 'insensitive' remarks by the prime minister
against Suqiu and other issues affecting the Chinese
community were debated during the campaigns in Lunas. But
let us not forget that Malay oppositionists had also
empathised with their Chinese comrades and that the Chinese
themselves, especially the younger ones, had other reasons
to vote against the BN.

Issues such as the black eye of Anwar Ibrahim, the
'injustices' done to him and his family, the economic and
financial conditions of the country, judicial independence
and police performance, etc had been raised.

Pentium reality
Hence, the Pentium reality of Chinese politics is more
colourful than the black-and-white PC 386 version of
Mahathir's paradigm, which might have been valid and
operational before the 1990s but not today.

In fact, an increasing number of Chinese youths who are
pro-opposition are joining Keadilan. Even MCA grass-roots
leaders, like former Negeri Sembilan state assemblyman Yap
Ann Peng, had found Keadilan attractive enough to cross over
during the Teluk Kemang by-election.

Others are Australian-trained lawyer Cheah Kah Peng in
Penang, Taiwan graduates - Low Chee Cheong in Kuala Lumpur
and Diong Chi Tzuoh in Johore - and Boon Chye who
graduated with a medical degree from the Universiti Malaya
(UM) and later obtained a masters medical degree from
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

Older Chinese like former pastor and ex-secretary-general of
the Christian Federation of Malaysia, Goh Keat Peng and his
wife as well as businessman Ng Lum Yong, had co-founded
Adil, ad later Keadilan, at the height of the reformasi
movement on April 4, 1999.

DAP too is undergoing a generational shift. Its Youth chief
and practising lawyer, Teng Chang Khim, who is also a
Selangor state assemblyperson, can speak and write Bahasa
Malaysia with a heigh degree of fluency.

The party's Member of Parliament (MP) for Batu Gajah, Fong
Po Kuan is a former student of the Ipoh Methodist Girls
School and a law graduate from the International Islamic
University Malaysia (IIUM).While its former public services
union chief, Ahmad Nor, is still a top leader in the party.

Better connections
So, what is this so-called 'Chinese chauvinism' that
Mahathir and Umno strategists are talking about?
What about the other Chinese associations? Well, there are
MCA, DAP, Keadilan and Gerakan members and supporters there
as well.

Gerakan leaders like Dr Koh Tsu Koon who is the Chief
Minister of Penang and Kerk Choo Ting, party deputy
president, were leaders of Dong Jiao Zong before they joined
Gerakan and the Barisan Nasional in 1982.

As to whether the Chinese newspapers are 'chauvinistic' or
not, it is perhaps best for Mahathir, who does not
understand Mandarin, to frequently consult more independent,
reliable, trustworthy and disinterested sources like Said
Zahari, who reads Mandarin exceptionally well.

Th premier should do this, instead of relying merely on
reports made by those with vested interests like MCA and
Gerakan ministers in the Cabinet.

JAMES WONG WING ON, is a former Member of Parliament
(1990-1995) and a former columnist for the Sin Chew Jit Poh
Chinese daily. He read political science and economics at
the Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. While in Sin
Chew, he and a team of journalists won the top awards of
Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) for 1998 and 1999.

Keadilan to downplay Islamic state issue in by-election

Keadilan may dodge the Islamic state issue and focus instead on national pressure points in its forthcoming Indera Kayangan state by-election campaign.
The party's secretary-general Sahri Bahri said the Islamic state issue "will not feature prominently" in the contest as the candidate vying for the Perlis state seat would be a Chinese.

"We will instead highlight national issues such as the economic situation in the country, political repression, the MCA debacle and local issues such as the menteri besar's mismanagement of the state," Sahri told malaysiakini.

The by-election will take place on Jan 19, after a nine-day campaign period beginning Jan 10, nomination day.

The seat fell vacant following the death of Barisan Nasional state assembly representative Khor Liang Tee on Dec 19.

The contest is expected to be intense as Keadilan is seeking to repeat its success story in the 1999 Lunas state by-election after suffering massive losses in Likas (Sabah) and Sarawak state elections last year.

Chinese votes
It is learnt that the party is wary of DAP's attempt to sway the debate from national issues to the Islamic state controversy if its members campaign in Perlis, thus derailing Keadilan's pursuit of more Chinese votes.

The DAP, however, has decided to withdraw its support of the opposition as it does not want to be dragged into the Islamic state debate between Umno and PAS, which the party claimed would be the main tussle there nor would it want to be seen as supporting PAS' Islamic state.

According to Keadilan supreme council member Cheah Kah Peng, the Islamic state was a 'non-issue' as the Barisan Alternatif has agreed to abide by the coalition's 1999 common manifesto which made no mention of the subject.

"That is why we will concentrate on national issues which are crucial not only for the BA but all Malaysians as well," Cheah told malaysiakini.

People's voice
He said despite the party's success in Lunas, the "people's voice" did not seem to have jolted the Barisan Nasional out of its complacency.

He said in the last four years since the 1998 financial crisis, the government "had not really injected the confidence of the people towards the ruling party".

Cheah, a lawyer from Penang, was on his way to set up several operation centres in Indera Kayangan when he told malaysiakini that the people must vote for Keadilan if they want checks and balances in the present administration.

"Voting for Keadilan does not mean changing the entire government. But it would mean that government leaders should perform better," he said.

Cheah dispelled rumours that he would be the Keadilan candidate in Indera Kayangan.

Keadilan is expected to announce its candidate after the party's supreme council meeting on Monday.
It is learnt that the BA presidential council which met on Jan 1 had dwelled on the issue and had made its proposal to the party.

Selepas tambang feri, tol pula naik

Raja Petra Kamarudin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

“Harga minyak naik, harga barang meningkat, tambang feri naik, kini tol pula ikut naik.

“Kerajaan sepatutnya membantu rakyat, bukannya membebankan rakyat,” kata Aminah Abdullah, Ketua Wanita Keadilan Pulau Pinang.

“Kerajaan BN menipu rakyat. Selepas menang pilihan raya, semua barang naik melonjak. Inikah hadiah untuk rakyat?” tanya Ahmad Ariffin, 63, salah seorang peserta demo yang memegang kad bertulis “Tradisi Menipu Rakyat.”

Sementara Zainal Abidin Saad, 49, berkata, “Selepas kenaikan harga minyak, kerajaan memberi amaran melarang peniaga menaikkan harga barang. Tetapi sekarang, kerajaan sendiri menaikan kadar tol.

“Kerajaan pernah berjanji, tiada kenaikan harga barang, walaupun harga minyak meningkat. Nampaknya janji tinggal janji, cakap tak serupa bikin,” katanya.

Reformasi activist held for possession of 'Best of Ezam' VCDs
Susan Loone 1:38pm Wed Aug 21st, 2002

Police personnel stationed at the Kulim magistrates' court yesterday
confiscated and detained a reformasi activist for illegal possession of 21
VCDs featuring a collection of speeches by Keadilan Youth chief Mohd Ezam
Mohd Nor, entitled 'Best of Ezam'.

Nasir Isa, 45, was held for five hours for questioning at the Kulim
district police headquarters allegedly for carrying 'illegal' copies of
the VCDs not approved by the Information Ministry. All videos recordings
for public distribution must be certified by the ministry's National Film
Development Corporation.

Nasir was later arrested but he has yet to be told of his charge.

He posted bail at RM2,000 in the afternoon and was told to report back on
Saturday, Aug 24. He was accompanied by Penang Keadilan deputy chief and
lawyer Cheah Kah Peng and two other party supporters.

Nasir has been politically active in reformasi activities and was part of
the 'urgent arrest' team which provide assistance for those detained by
police during street demonstrations.

District police chief Ismail Ayub confirmed the arrest but declined to
comment beyond saying that the charge against Nasir would be made known on
Saturday.

No intention of sell VCDs

Earlier, Nasir was in court to observe the trial of 10 Keadilan leaders
and members who were jointly charged with taking part in an illegal
assembly with the intention to riot, and wrongfully confining bus drivers
and passengers from reaching their destination during the Nov 2000 Lunas
by-election.

Forty-five minutes into the trial yesterday, which started at 10.30am,
Nasir was asked to leave the courtroom and report to the magistrates'
court's guard house.

He was then told that his bag, which was left at the guard house,
contained 'illegal' VCDs. One of the police officers at the court later
escorted him to the police station.

When malaysiakini spoke to Nasir after he had posted his bail, he said he
had no intentions to sell the VCDs or distribute them in public and was
not expecting any arrest.

The VCDs contain a compilation of Ezam's speeches at various political
rallies before he was detained under the controversial Internal Security
Act last April for allegedly seeking to overthrow the government through
street demonstrations.

"I brought them from Kuala Lumpur to give party supporters and members
souvenirs to take home after the trial," he said.

Since the launch of the reformasi movement four years ago, several
distributers have been charged in court for illegal possession and for
selling VCDs which contained political speeches by opposition leaders.

Witness in riot trial quizzed for not reporting IC incident

Youth chief Ahmad Khairudin Jamaluddin, Sungai Petani PAS Youth committee
member Mohd Khairi Yahya, Kota Kuala Muda PAS committee member Mohd Fauzi
Awang Kechik and PAS volunteer Khairul Nizar Ismail.

Tian was brought to the court from the Kamunting Detention Centre where he
is undergoing a two-year detention under the Internal Security Act.

Similarly, Ezam too was brought from Kajang prison where he is undergoing
a two-year sentence after being found guilty of committing an offence
under the Official Secrets Act early this month. Prior to that, he was in
Kamunting undergoung a two-year ISA detention.

When asked how Murugesan could conclusively identify those who stopped the
buses to be Keadilan supporters, Murugesan said he knew them from the tags
that they wore, which had the party logo.

However, Pravan disputed Murugesan's assumption that they were Keadilan
people simply because they were wearing the party tags.

No one injured

To another question, Murugesan said none of the passengers had been
injured or beaten up.

The day before, he had alleged in court that the group who detained the
buses carried sticks, cameras and helmets.

Later, Pravan inferred that the buses were directed to the police station
because they ferried phantom voters.

"If they are not phantom voters, why do they have to come on polling day?"
Pravan asked.

To that, Murugesan said his movement, MIC Selangor, brought along
supporters to Lunas to give their fellow Barisan Nasional member candidate
"moral support".

Magistrate Rosnani Saud* presided over the case while DPP Hashim Hamzah
prosecuted. Besides Pravan, Md Yunos Shariff, Cheah Kah Peng and Gooi Hock
Seng were the legal counsel for the 10.

"Lain kali jangan beri lagi BN berkuasa kerana mereka manis mulut bila merayu undi tetapi bila menang langsung tidak ambil peduli nasib rakyat bawahan, " serunya. - mks.

My little walkabout in Ijok

Sunday (22 Apr) came and I was feeling pretty restless. So, decided to suit up in my riding jacket, put on my helmet, and ride off towards the current hotspot where all the media limelight is shining upon. Where else but in the small towns of Ijok and Batang Berjuntai! Took me an hour or so because I made the wrong turn on the Sg Buloh-Ijok road (I was heading towards Kuang and Kundang instead), called up some people I know and I had to backtrack. Finally, arrived when I start seeing posters everywhere (mostly BN punya lah).

By the time I ply the road close to Ijok town, whatever resurfacing job has been done. Only a certain section of the winding (nice!) road through oil palm estates is resurfaced. The rest of the road seem reasonable enough a condition. But the cynic in me was wondering if the resurfacing was called off due to major complaints of traffic congestion by people traveling around the area. Maybe they're worried the complaints may turn into lost votes...heheh! Anyway, the road from Ijok to Batang Berjuntai seems to see heavier traffic than usual. One can see humongous black SUVs with dark tinted glasses, and most of the time with expensive vehicle number plates, thundering down that stretch to and fro. No prizes for guessing which side of the political fence these guys are on. Once in a while you'll hear siren blasting about when "Mini-stars" such as Najib and Samy decides to ply the roads themselves (of course, with at least 3-4 other cars filled with menacing looking bodyguards, plus 2 police cars, plus 3-4 police outriders, plus 2 UTK outriders (these are the ones dressed up all in black, and riding black bikes). Looks like the rude and arrogant behaviour of forcing people off the road (even when there is a huge jam caused by closing off a certain section of the Ijok-Batang Berjuntai road to...what else but resurface!) is not unique to the bustling city of KL.

Anyway, the sheer number of BN posters and baloons and banners makes one wonder how many millions are being poured into this constituency, and we're not talking about the RM36mil announced earlier by Selangor MB Khir Toyo, who incidentally has said he will adopt Ijok as his own if they win. I wonder what his own constituency in Sungai Panjang will think. Well, at least he didn't follow Samy's declaration of staying in Lunas should the BN loses (and they did lose to PKR) during a by-election there in 2000. Back to banners and posters...every umno state seem to have their own action center (or Bilik Gerakan), and it seems every 500 meters or so there will be at least one BN Bilik Gerakan regardless run by umno or one of the other parties. Surprisingly MCA seems to be playing a very minor role in this by-election. I could hardly see their presence anywhere save for a little night "concert" which they're organizing in Batang Berjuntai town itself (MCA seems fond of asking singers, artistes, and badminton players to help them campaign). By and large 90% of the Bilik Gerakan I see in the area are umno run. I am not the least surprised since Ijok is predominantly Malay (51.8%) and that is where PKR is targeting the votes.

Do remember that in 2004 PKR won the Malay votes quite handsomely, and there is no clear indication that pattern would change. The kingmakers would be the Chinese votes, concentrated mainly around the Ijok township as well as Batang Berjuntai township. My feeling after walking about the pasar petang, and noticing the number of cars flooding out of Ijok at night, is that PKR's chance could be slightly more than 50-50. The identification of Ijok as a semi-urban seat could not be far off as it takes only 30 minutes to reach Shah Alam using the Guthrie Corridor Expressway, as well as perhaps 45 minutes to Sg Buloh and Kepong. The stream of cars I followed on my way back from Ijok seem to indicate (at least anecdotal) that quite a number of people there work in the Klang Valley, but returns to the area during the weekend. Hopefully the groundswell of dissatisfaction that is growing in the urban areas will permeate into the ballot box this Saturday through these people.

Back to my walkabout in Ijok...for the first time I have to agree with the servations of people in which the BN workers look most intimidating. I am not talking about the older folks (I saw a lot of senior Indian uncles who are BN supporters and they look gentlemanly enough), but the younger ones who in their BN uniforms, tshirts, or bush jackets, really look like some samseng gang ready to beat the daylights out of anyone they like. In fact, other than the incident of bottle (thank God they were plastic) and stick throwing during the nomination, none other than Tan Sri Khalid (the PKR candidate) and 2 other photographers (one is Jeff Ooi, and the other not named) were threatened and almost assaulted full scale by young BN workers. In fact, the un-named photographer did get injured when his glasses were smashed by using a plastic bottle. More interesting stories, including the forced overnight closure of two PKR operation centers can be read at Jeff Ooi's blog. Ronnie Liu speaking during a night ceramah that same day alluded to a case where a group of students who were going into estates to seek voter views were openly threatened by the MIC MP for Cameron Highlands S. K. Devamani to leave. Hearing and seeing all this confirms in my mind on why KJ and his Putera Umno seem so intent in recruiting the Mat Rempits. It is clear they will have no problem playing the "goons" role very well when ordered to do so. No wonder why KJ sees it fit to behave like one as well, complete with gesturing, during the by-election nomination (click here to see the pics). Violence and physical intimidation seem to be the preferred tool of the ruling party when facing by-elections (anyone wanna bet it's the same for general elections as well?). The question for Malaysians really is whether they see this culture of violence (from none other than the ruling party) as acceptable, never mind the fact it is an intensely contested seat. If we Malaysians are supposed to pride ourselves as courteous and friendly, we really have to examine if this kind of political culture is something we want to see and allow continuing.

I had the good fortune of meeting up with a group of Bandar Mahkota Cheras residents-turned-activists who are fighting hard to get the ready-built interchange linking their township with the Grand Saga Cheras-Kajang Highway. You can read more about their effort here and here. Oh yeah, they managed to get Parthiban, the MIC candidate, to endorse their appeal to remove the barriers on the interchange. In fact, he even said in a loud voice that if it was in Ijok he would have already opened it up! Anyway, we went around Batang Berjuntai town and noticed the deplorable housing that our fellow Indian Malaysians have to live in. The wood in most cases were almost rotting, with holes visible everywhere. Ironically you would see that it is these houses which would have BN posters plastered all over their walls. Seeing the abject poverty makes you realize why to these desperate and marginalized groups a simple gesture of vote-buying like RM100 or RM200 would have been a windfall. I realize they really can't be faulted for continuing to vote for BN as a token of appreciation for the small sum really is, in a way, a life saver to them, never mind that it only happens during election times. The more cruel thing is that the ruling party seems to see it fit keeping these poor people in their desperate position because they have the most to gain at the ballot boxes if they could continue to falsely convince them only BN can give them goodies.

Which brings me to the night ceramah. There was quite a number of speakers in the chinese restaurant directly across the Ijok bus station. Anwar was the first speaker and I admit that was the first time I've heard him talk. I didn't catch the first part of his speech I was having dinner elsewhere, but towards the end he was talking about the need to stop thinking that only Malays can help Malays, Chinese helps Chinese, Indians help Indians, Iban helps Iban, etc. Something he has consistently been talking about ever since the PKR policy themes start to take a more concrete form. The other speakers from PKR such Sivarasa Rasiah, Fuziah Salleh, Cheah Kah Peng all talk on common themes which are economics, education, and healthcare. Perhaps that is a prelude to what PKR's platform will be in the very near future, and hopefully, moving forward. Ronnie Liu and Ng Suee Lin (DAP state assemblyman for Sekinchan) were there speaking, as well as Dr Wan Azizah who made a short speech after presenting a donation to some Chinese education fund (the Lim Lian Geok Foundation), represented by Chinese educationist Loot Ting Yee (known fondly among people as Cikgu Loot). Dr Lim Teck Ghee of ex-ASLI who was embroiled in the research result of bumiputera equity figure of 45% fiasco was there as well (I don't know if he was speaking as I left during Cheah Kah Peng's hokkien speech). The crowd in ceramahs are usually quite a responsive lot, but, as Anwar pleaded towards the end of his speech, we have heard enough claps, we have heard enough cheers, we have heard enough shouts of approval. It is time to translate these favourable responses to the one thing that counts - votes!

Finally, decided to ride back home (taking the Guthrie Corridor Expressway took me about 30 minutes only!). My take away from my short walkabout? As I've mentioned above, this by-election is going to be very close. I would reckon a slightly better than 50-50 chance for a PKR win based on the general feeling of dissatisfaction among the Chinese voters who will be king makers. The Malays areas, if remains unchanged from 2004, would again see a 50-50 split, with slight advantage going to PKR. One PKR member was alluding to a 70% target, which will be very interesting indeed, and augurs well for the future of PKR among Malay voters, if they can achieve it. The Indians remain a big challenge. Not so much because they're unable to understand the concerns of the nation, but I guess abject poverty dictates that survival concerns is the top priority. Coupled with the ugly tactics of MIC using goons to "defend" the Indian areas from campaign workers from PKR and DAP, one could understand the difficulty our fellow Indian Malaysians have in getting the other side of the story which would at least help them make a much more informed choice than the current quandary they're in. Plenty of hardwork remains to work among them, but I believe this will make the greatest impact in terms votes if they could get true assistance from the opposition and NGOs rather than the false hopes being rained on them all this time by BN. Make no mistake, Ijok at the end of the day is really about the war between Anwar and Pak Lah/Najib (Pak Lah is nowhere to be seen...maybe he's busy dozing off), between the multi-racial politics of PKR and the racial politics of Umno (and its subordinate parties in the illusionary coalition called the Barisan Nasional). It will be most interesting to see if the Ijok voters will dare make a stand that perhaps after 50 years of dominant racial politics, a new and fresh approach needs to be taken...for the future wellbeing of this nation.

Indera Kayangan : Prelude Kepada PRU 2003/4 II

Sama-samalah kita tunggu keputusan nya nanti.

Ayuh !!!! kita beramai-ramai turun mengundi menolak BN … Kita LUNASKAN Indera Kayangan Pula……….

BERSATU, BERPADU  KITA MAMPU MELAKUKANNYA SEBAGAIMANA LUNAS.
REFORMASI 3 X…….

Kempen Indera Kayangan di Putrajaya
(Indera Kayangan campaigning at Putrajaya)

Malaysiakini 14/1/2002

Isu Yang Lebih Besar
