Alistair Hulett's version

The Internationale

Arise ye workers from your slumbers
Arise ye prisoners of want
For reason in revolt now thunders
And at last ends the age of cant.
Away with all your superstitions
Servile masses arise, arise
We'll change henceforth the old tradition
And spurn the dust to win the prize.

So comrades, come rally
And the last fight let us face
The Internationale unites the human race.

So comrades, come rally
And the last fight let us face
The Internationale unites the human race.

No more deluded by reaction
On tyrants only we'll make war
The soldiers too will take strike action
They'll break ranks and fight no more

And if those cannibals keep trying
To sacrifice us to their pride
They soon shall hear the bullets flying
We'll shoot the generals on our own side.

No saviour from on high delivers
No faith have we in prince or peer
Our own right hand the chains must shiver
Chains of hatred, greed and fear
E'er the thieves will out with their booty
And give to all a happier lot.
Each at the forge must do their duty
And we'll strike while the iron is hot.

Pome de Eugene Pottier (Paris 1871)
Musique de Pierre Degeyter (1888)

Debout les damnés de la terre
Debout les forçats de la faim
La raison tonne en son cratère
C'est l'éruption de la fin
Du passe faisons table rase
Foules, esclaves, debout, debout
Le monde va changer de base
Nous ne sommes rien, soyons tout

C'est la lutte finale
Groupons-nous, et demain (bis)
L'Internationale

L'oisif ira loger ailleurs
Combien, de nos chairs se repaissent
Mais si les corbeaux, les vautours
Un de ces matins disparaissent
Le soleil brillera toujours.

OPINION: Brave lawyers acted

Contributed by Charles Hector Tuesday, 02 May 2006, 21:54 On 16 April 2000, a lawyer was forcibly pushed away from his client, angrily shouted at by police officers at the Petaling Jaya Police District Headquarters and then told he was going to be charged with obstruction of public servant in the course of his duties. He was there to protect his client in the execution of his duty. Instead he was thoroughly intimidated, pushed around and accused of a criminal offence and arrested. On 18 April 2000, a group of about 15 young lawyers were there at the Ibu Pejabat Daerah Petaling Jaya to hand over a memorandum of protest, which was signed by 107 lawyers, to the Officer in Charge of the Police District (OCPD) of Petaling Jaya. That action was initiated by then young lawyers, N. Surendran and Charles Hector, who collected signatures from lawyers that Tuesday morning at the courts in Jalan Raja and Wisma Denmark and the memorandum of protest was handed over that very afternoon. Then only did the Bar Council respond by sending a delegation to meet up with the Deputy Inspector General of Police on Thursday 20 April 2000, and thereafter, a press statement entitled “Arrest of lawyer in P.J. Police Station” was issued on the same day by the then President, Haji Sulaiman Abdullah. All this happened 6 years ago, coincidently also in mid-April and at the same Petaling Jaya Police District Headquarters and the lawyer concerned then was Cheah Kah Peng.

Billion Ringgit Batu Kawan Stadium Sinking !
Posted by: free&fair on Thu, 13 January 2005 02:12:23 (163 Reads)

The picture speak for itself -the stadium pavement has sunk by over 1 foot in 5 years -after it was constructed in 2000 to house the Malaysian Games. The under-utilised stadium is rightly called a `dangerous white elephant' -dangerous for sinking more fund of the people when the repairs work finally need to be contracted out to the same cronies who built it wrong in the first place ! Interesting aside : top right hand corner is PKR's Penang's Deputy Chief Cheah Kah Peng who had disappered from media's lime light since GE2004. His presence signal a return to politics after he was re-elected as his party's Supreme Council member ...... Cheah shot off in the run-up to GE2004 after he could not stand against Karpal Singh due to opposition from his party. PKR lost steam after his departure which coincided with a poor performance at the poll. It remains to be seen if his return can bring PKR to higher achievements later.
